    My 89 Fox Body

sits on 195x75x14 – radials – “According to tire rack” the section width is 7.7″ tread width is slightly less. The question is

do we use section width or tread width? when using the 1″ rule on tire size up-grade. Or am I drinking my bath water again?

The one inch rule is in regards to the diameter of the wheel. You can run 13,14 or 15 inch and any width you want as long as it fits the stock width wheel.

And if you run CAM, there are no limits!  But the rule for the Street classes is indeed the stock wheel diameter +/- 1 inch, stock width, and stock offset +/- 7 mm.  Any tire that fits a legal wheel is fine as long as the treadwear rating is 200 or higher.
