Folks, I hate doing this, but it seems to be necessary.
The Front Range Airport authorities and I were personally visited by a CSP trooper in the afternoon of Sunday, January the 27th. CSP has been getting calls from concerned motorists and truckers about “sports cars” excessively speeding, racing, and other reckless driving behavior on I-70 near FRA. CSP believes this activity is related to the events of one or more of the car clubs, including us – the Colorado Region of the SCCA. Essentially, we are on notice.
This kind of negative publicity, particularly with a law enforcement agency, is not something the club wants. This sort of thing is could very well lead to all of the area car clubs losing access to FRA.
It should not need to be said, but if I am personally getting a visit from a CSP trooper, then I guess it needs to be pointed out – such behavior is entirely unacceptable. Part of the point of organizing autocross events is to provide a safe and legal place to explore the limits of one’s car and driving skill.
If you happen to be engaging in such behavior on public streets, cut it out. If you know of someone who is, tell them to cut it out. Like it or not, your behavior reflects on everyone else, and I believe that we are better than this. It would be my preference that this issue need not be addressed any further.
I have also sent word out to the other clubs so that they can also inform their members of this situation.
