    After years of drag racing, I’ve decided to learn how to turn corners.  To get started, I purchased a widebody 944 from Widerstandsfahig.  It was built for XP, so I’m surely going to be in over my head to start.  I booked three days in early November (fingers crossed for good weather) at High Plains with Mike Pettiford from Go 4 It to get some pro instruction. Hopefully I won’t make a fool of myself right out of the gate!Widerstandsfahig 944

    Welcome to autocross.  That car looks like it will be a blast!

    Just a warning though, almost everyone who does an autocross usually gets hooked on it . (c;

    Thanks for the welcome, Ken!  I’m excited to get some seat time.  The build on this car is fully documented over on Rennlist.  Brian Bergeron (Kniners on Rennlist), founder of Widerstandsfahig, has great skills and a real eye for detail.  This was supposed to be his car to make a run for a national title, but health issues got in his way.  As a result, I’m starting with a fresh build.  No ego here – I’ll be wide open for coaching, suggestions, and input.  The only bummer on that front – this car is a single-seater.  The position of the fuel tank and bulk head will make it a job to put in a passenger seat, so no in-car coaching.

    I’m sure you’re right about this being addictive!

    You’re going to have so much fun!  Take rides with others even though you cannot have a passenger in your car.  The passenger seat is always faster than the driver’s seat, so even if someone is running similar times to yours, you will pick up items to improve your own driving.  And for that matter, riding in completely different types of cars will show you things you never thought of, especially riding in lower powered “Momentum” type cars.  When you cannot cover your mistakes with power, you try REALLY hard not to make mistakes…  Welcome to the addiction!

    Great suggestion, Matt!  Thanks for sharing.  I wasn’t thinking about riding with more experienced drivers.  Are there many who are willing to do that?

    I have been doing this for almost 20 years and have had a few first in class, but I’m really just middle of the pack when you look at everyone who is running, but I’ll be glad to offer my right seat to you.  I usually run a 2002 M Roadster, but just got a 2021 Camaro SS that I ran the first event of our winter season and may also run it at the next event.  The seat is open no matter which car I run.  (c;

    Wow, thanks for the offer, Ken!  I’ll definitely plan to take you up on that.  Will you be at the Highlands Ranch event on November 21st?  I’m currently registered.  If I don’t hurt my car at High Plains, I’ll have it with me.  I’d sure appreciate some experienced eyes looking at the set-up.

    I do plan to attend the next event.

    I’m sure there are other people who can advise you on set-up better than I can and I’ll bet we can find them.

    Looking forward to meeting you in person.
